What is Futsal?
Futsal is a variant of soccer that is played on a smaller playing surface and mainly played indoors. Its name is derived from the Portuguese futebol de salão and the Spanish fútbol de salón (colloquially fútbol sala), which can be translated as "hall football" or "indoor football". During the sport's second world championships held in Madrid in 1985, the name fútbol de salón was used. Since then, all other names have been officially and internationally changed to futsal. Check out these videos for the official FIFA Futsal Laws of the Game.
How many players are on the field?
Futsal is played between two teams of five players, one of whom is the goalkeeper (i.e. only five players including the goalkeeper are allowed on the field). Unlimited substitutes per team are permitted.
Is there a roster limit?
No, but the league is intended to be a developmental league, so roster sizes of 7 to 9 players are recommended to give every player maximum touches on the ball. Do we need player cards? NO! Each player will have to have a parental consent waiver on file prior to using the facility.
What is the playing surface?
The surface at the Xtreme Futsal Center is a sport court surface. Field dimensions are about the size of a basketball court.
What equipment do we need?
Futsal is played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular soccer ball. The rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.
What type of shoes do we wear?
Soccer flats are the recommended shoe. Flat soled tennis shoes will also work. NO CLEATS WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE SPORT COURT SURFACE FOR PLAYER SAFETY REASONS.
